Redken Iron Shape 11 Thermal Holding Spray Review

Using the pH-balanced formula and high-heat protection, the Redken Iron Shape 11 seems to be a great choice that comes with decent hold and protection for hair. Most importantly, Redken claims that this heat protectant spray is friendly to all types of hair. Is that true? We are gonna test it out in today’s review.

1. Is It Thick or Lightweight?

Redken claims that the Redken Iron Shape 11 is a lightweight heat protectant that will not make hair stiff and weighed down. But I have to be honest with you – This thermal holding spray is not gonna be categorized as “lightweight” in my hair products, luckily, it’s not extremely thick and slimy.

The Redken Iron Shape 11 thermal holding spray comes with floral scents and it is kind of strong for me, but people who love hair spray with fragrance will definitely think it’s pleasant. However, if you prefer faint scents or unscented products, you might find the Redken thermal holding spray is overpowering.

2. Heat Protection Review

The Redken Iron Shape 11’s heat protection is superb with maximum protection of up to 450 degrees, and it is designed for heat styling tools like flat irons or curling irons. Even though the Redken holding spray offers less hold than Redken setting mist, it does protect your hair effectively as well.

I am quite impressed with the heat protection as it is a holding spray, so it is very convenient to use and easy to apply. And it’s ideal for lazy people like me that I don’t need to apply the heat protectant with my fingers and wash my hands later.

3. Hair Styling Results

For me, this heat protector immediately gets rid of that dry feeling of my hair. And after trying out the Redken Iron Shape 11 spray a couple of times, I notice that the product can reduce frizz and add shine nicely. This product is great for making hair manageable and smooth. But I also found that the spray was a bit thick for me. And my hair was easy to get slightly stiff and greasy. So if you have thin hair or you have problems with hair volume, you should reconsider buying this Redken Iron Shape 11 hair spray.

4. Hair Holding Performance Review

I can honestly say that the Redken heat styling Iron Shape 11 spray has decent holding power even though it is not as powerful as Redken the setting mist. It holds your hair throughout the day effortless and your curls will not lose style easily. Additionally, the heat protectant spray is easy to wash off,  it will not get sticky on hair even when it is completely dry. Even though it is not the most lightweight holding spray that I have seen, it is still a reliable product for most people.

5. Is It Cost-Effective?

As a renowned brand with a high-performance holding and styling power, it is not surprising that the Redken Iron Shape 11 spray is popular on the market, and it makes sense that the price point for this product is slightly high than other regular rivals. But you don’t have to worry, the price of the Redken Iron Shape 11 spray is still acceptable. And the big bottle will last for a very long time.

The Redken Iron Shape 11 has two sizes and I would surely recommend the bigger bottle of the spray as it significantly cuts the cost compared to the small bottle.

6. Redken Iron Shape 11 vs Hot Sets 22 – Which One Is Better?

I personally have never tried the Redken Hot Sets 22 Thermal Setting Mist yet, but I was told that the Hot Sets 22 provides a longer holding time and maximum holding power compared to the Redken Iron Shape 11.

The Hot Sets 22 offers a perfect solution to fixing frizzy hair and it is designed for maintaining your curls even if your hair is hard to hold. However, I don’t have the need to hold my curls for a very long time and I hate heavy hair products very much, so I did not purchase the Hot Sets 22. I can officially say that the Redken Iron Shape 11’s holding performance is enough for most people. But if you are looking for a spray that helps you to hold hair after using curling tools, you can give it a shot.
