The Shark HyperAIR blow dryer is a high-end hair dryer that was launched recently. It has a pretty similar look to the Dyson Supersonic blow dryer, but it is actually more affordable. However, this new hair dryer from Shark is not any expensive dryer that you have seen before. What is special about the HyperAIR hair dryer and how it is different from Dyson? Let’s review its features and look at how they stack up against each other
Design – Beautiful, But Not Astonishing
The Shark HyperAIR is designed to compete with Dyson and it’s got a similar look to the original Dyson Supersonic. It comes with a compact and mini-sized drying body, which is covered in silver and gray.
And the handle also looks like Dyson’s too, but it is slightly different that Shark HyperAIR doesn’t make the handle point to the dryer vertically, which makes the whole hair dryer more balanced and ergonomic.
Another advantage of this dryer is that the blow dryer is very lightweight and easy to hold because of the size of the heater. However, the Shark HyperAIR does not have Dyson’s magical bladeless drying component. Generally speaking, it’s a beautiful hair dryer, but it is not a hair tool that can amaze me by the design.
Drying Settings
The Shark HyperAIR has 3 heat settings and 3-speed settings, which are precise and advanced. Although Dyson has more flexible 4 heat settings, you can still use Shark’s accurate heat settings and speeds separately to achieve the perfect airflow that you need.
What needs to be mentioned is, Shark has put the control buttons on the back of the dryer except for the cool shot button. I love this design since it is more convenient to adjust settings while blow drying, and your hand will not get burned accidentally. Unlike Dyson, the cool shot button is still on the front of the handle, it is easy to touch with your thumb and cold airflow will come out from the nozzle quickly.
Styling Attachments – You Can Not Find Anything Like These on The Market
One thing that attracts me most about the Shark HyperAIR hair dryer is its unique hair drying attachments that I’ve never seen before, and I will tell you why.
The basic version comes with two IQ series attachments: a concentrator nozzle and a styling brush attachment. And you can buy the premium bundle to get a diffuser and a touchless hair waver.
The Shark HyperAIR’s nozzle is adjustable, you can change how precise you want the airflow to be by moving the small toggle. We know some dryers have tons of nozzles for doing different jobs including shaping strands quickly or spreading air evenly. With the adjustable Shark HyperAIR’s nozzle, you can easily get all the jobs done with one concentrator. Also, the diffuser is also versatile and adjustable. You can extend change the teeth’ lengths according to your hair texture and length freely.
And Shark also invented a creative brush attachment that allows you to straighten, detangle, and brush your hair effortlessly. Compared to the old-school way of blow drying, this attachment makes your strands smoother and softer, and you don’t need to hold a round brush with another hand. And it is better than those hot air drying brushes when you need more powerful airflow.
Technology – Smart, But Not That Smart
Shark claims that their dryer has dual optical sensors so it can recognize styles and intelligently set heat and airflow. The fact is the system will recognize the attachments when they connect to the dryer, and the dryer will select pre-set heat settings and airflow speeds for you. Luckily, you can manually change the settings anytime.
According to Shark, the Shark HyperAIR hair dryer is equipped with intelligent heat control that can measure outlet heat up to 1000 times per second. Actually, I’m skeptical of this feature and I think it might be a gimmick in some way. I know Dyson Supersonic can measure air temperature over 40 times a second to get consistent heat. But 1000 times per second? I don’t know if it is really necessary.
Drying Performance Review – It Gives Perfect Drying Results
The Shark HyperAIR delivers powerful, hot, and even airflow instantly when you press the button on the back. And you will feel your hair is being blow-dried healthily in the drying process thanks to the ion-generator, which can reduce hair frizz and heat damage significantly.
The hair dryer generates very powerful airflow, and it can faster the blow drying process with its innovative concentrator. Compared to Dyson, this Shark HyperAIR hair dryer can cut your drying time slightly since the drying motor is more close to the drying tube. And it makes the airflow goes to your hair immediately.
Unfortunately, this high-end hair dryer is not very quiet, the noise level is just like a regular blow dryer.

Summary
The Shark HyperAIR is a fast-drying and solid blow dryer. The biggest advantage of the product is that it comes with an innovative brush attachment and a versatile concentrator. It also features smart hair drying technologies to protect your hair better. It is a pretty expensive hair dryer, but it is still more much affordable compared to Dyson Supersonic. It might not be the best versatile tool for styling with air like the Dyson Airwrap, but if you’re looking for a pure blow dryer that dries hair perfectly, the Shark HyperAIR dryer is a good choice.
